Jonathan’s Declaration of Independence

As an African American, people who don’t see eye to eye with me, assume I enjoy “Rap” music or their artist. As I developed and matured I see “Rap” as what it is nothing more than minute music or another means to push forward with the artists’ sales and popularity. In the this generation music as a whole has been dragged down due to “Rap” music, it has come to the point where rappers have honestly said that the message they are sending to children is not a just one. However there are few of them who preach what they speak and illuminate the soul of hip hop for a brief moment. Even though I refrain from repetitively listening to “Rap” music this effects me, indirectly of course, but none the less it effects me by how it effects my peers. With that said the “music” they thrust upon the frequent listeners can take away their future and also their ability to educate themselves and be someone. The statements below will enlighten you on my views.

• The music promotes violence and portrays such as being a lifestyle.
• The rappers base their songs either drugs, crime, or being rich not sharing the common problems in effective ways that relates to listeners.
• Nothing of educational value comes from listening to “Rap” music.
• They keep children in a closed off state of mind, not opening their minds to the values of life.
• My peers who choose to imitate said rappers don’t end up in predicaments that are healthy.
• It lacks the feelings ‘Music” should portray such as Hip Hop.
• The violence that they portray leads only to death or jail.
• Also shows tattoos as a way to look “cool” instead of letting something that goes on you’re body be a great symbol of what you stand for.
• There are rappers who are as intelligent as the next man, but show only his “Ghetto” side to the camera therefore holding a contradiction within him.
• It shapes a unwanted shadow on all black men and woman hence we created such a thing.

Music is supposed to be something to rejoice on and or relax to; making people think is rap is something that should be eliminated. Many people are quick to blame rap for the downfall of their children or peers. Is it not time to step up?

On this day April 2nd of 2010,I declare my independence from rap music
